Thailand from Above – Chonburi

Chonburi is an eastern province of Thailand. Neighboring provinces are Chachoengsao, Chanthaburi, and Rayong. To the west is the Gulf of Thailand. Chonburi is home to Thailand’s largest tourist-oriented city, Pattaya (also spelled Phatthaya). It is home to Thailand’s largest and primary seaport. Due to these factors, the province’s population is growing rapidly, with currently some 1.7 million residents (albeit with a large floating or unregistered population).The registered population as of 31 December 2012 was 1.36 million.


ชลบุรี เป็นจังหวัดทางตะวันออกของประเทศไทย จังหวัดที่อยู่ใกล้เคียง ได้แก่ ฉะเชิงเทรา จันทบุรี และระยอง ทางตะวันตกติดกับอ่าวไทย ชลบุรีเป็นที่ตั้งของเมืองท่องเที่ยวที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในประเทศไทย ซึ่งก็คือพัทยา เป็นที่ตั้งของท่าเรือที่ใหญ่ที่สุดและสำคัญที่สุดของประเทศไทย ด้วยปัจจัยเหล่านี้ทำให้ประชากรของจังหวัดนี้เติบโตอย่างรวดเร็วโดยปัจจุบันมีผู้อยู่อาศัย 1.7 ล้านคน (มีจำนวนประชากรลอยตัวที่ยังไม่ลงทะเบียนรวมอยู่ด้วย) ส่วนจำนวนประชากรที่ลงทะเบียน ณ วันที่ 31 ธันวาคม 2555 มีจำนวน 1.36 ล้านคน

Bang Saen Beach is located at Saen Suk Subdistrict, Mueang Chonburi District, Chonburi. It is the most well-known and popular place for tourist destinations since it takes only one hour’s drive from Bangkok. The Bang Saen Street is usually lined with restaurants, shops, and canvas chairs for welcoming tourists to relax on the beach. The beach itself is not only safe for swimming, but there are also many various water activities for tourists, such as swim rings for rent, banana boats, and jet skis.

Loy Island or Koh Loi

Loy Island or Koh Loi is a small island in the middle of the sea with a concrete bridge connecting the island to the coast. The main highlight for the tourists is the four meters white jade Guan Yin inside Octagonal Chinese Cab which is the largest white jade in Thailand. Moreover, the island is surrounded by souvenir shops, restaurants, a recreational park, and especially a sea turtle garden where all the turtles are rescued from fishermen’s nets.

Lan Island or Koh Larn is the most famous landmark to visit in Pattaya. It has an area of about four square kilometers and is seven kilometers away from the coast. Traveling to Koh larn is quite easy because it takes forty-five minutes by boat and just fifteen minutes by speedboat. There are also many stunning beaches, such as Tawaen and Thong Lang Beach which have highlighted activities for snorkeling and scuba diving.

Khao Sam Muk

Khao Sam Muk is originally a symbol on the seal of Chonburi Province. It is located between Baan Sila and Bangsaen Beach. At the foothills, there is a shrine of Mae Khao Sam Muk worshiped by many local people who live there. Another amazing landmark of visiting Bangsaen is Khao Sam Muk Viewpoint. One interesting highlight of this place is an English white letter tunnel “Bangsaen Khao Sam Muk” in which you can drop in, take pictures, and enjoy the view.
