Kanchanaburi is the largest of the western provinces of Thailand. The neighboring provinces are Tak, Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom, and Ratchaburi. In the west it borders Kayin State, Mon State, and the Tanintharyi Region of Myanmar.
Tourists are attracted by the history of its ancient civilization and the World War II Bridge over the River Kwai, originally spelt “Khwae” but officially changed to Kwai to accommodate the expectations of tourists.

The River Kwai Bridge was part of a strategic railway line built during World War II by the tens of thousands of laborers and allied prisoners. The railway is about a length of 415 kilometers starting from Ratchaburi to the destination in Myanmar. The highlight of visiting here is walking on the railroad tracks on the bridge over the River Kwai, which is 300 meters long. There is also a popular photo spot and a viewpoint on the River Kwai.
Kanchanaburi War Cemetery or what Kanchanaburi people generally call “The British Cemetery” is a large cemetery on an area of 17 hectares, containing the bodies of 6,982 prisoners of war who died during the construction of the Death Railway. Above every tomb was a brass plaque engraved with the name, age, and country of the deceased. There is a special commemorative day for the people of different nations every year.
Tham Suea Temple is located in Tha Muang District, Kanchanaburi Province. The interesting highlight of this place is the vastness of the temple and the largest Buddha image adorned with gold mosaics. There is also a Ket Kaeo Prasat Chedi which the whole pagoda was painted in brick color. The chedi is divided into several layers, and each floor has many Buddha images. The top floor is enshrined by the Buddha’s relics brought from India, and there are also various sanctuaries and murals inside.
